A Report for Current Status of Taiwanese Machinery Industry in February 2010

From January to February 2010, the export of Taiwanese machinery showed a 32.4% increase, and the export to China grew by 101%. The imports increased by 68.4%. The figures indicated keen investigations.


1. Taiwanese Machinery Exports Categorized by Products

  According to customs statistics in February 2010, the export value of Taiwanese-made machinery amounted to US$ 2.2 billion, which showed an increase of 32.4% over last year.

  Following is the ranking of the major exported products. Machine tools ranked first with the export amount of US$ 312.million and increased by 10.8%. Plastic and rubber machinery ranked second with the amount of US$ 136 million and increased by 44.0% over the previous year. Special purpose machines were third, whose export amounting to US$ 127 million with a 40.7% decrease. Refer to table 1 for details.

2. Taiwanese Machinery Exports Categorized by Countries

  In February 2010, the export value of Taiwanese-made machinery to China and Hong Kong ranked first with the amount of US$ 592 million, sharing 27.0% of the total exports, indicating a 101% growth comparing with the same period in the last year. The US ranked second with the amount of US$ 426 billion and the share of 19.4%.This indicated an incerase of 21.3%. Japan ranked third with the amount of US$ 131 million. This share 6.0% of the total export value and indicated a decrease of 25.0% compared to last year. Refer to Table 2 for details.

3. Taiwanese Machinery Imports Categorized by Products

  According to customs statistics in February 2010, the import value of machinery reached US$ 3. billion. This number showed a 68.4% decrease.

  Major imported machinery is ranked as following: machines for semi-conductors, IC and display panels ranked first with US$ 1.4 billion, sharing 45.3% of the total value and indication growth by 256%. Special-purpose machines ranked second with US$ 244 million, sharing 7.8% of the total value and decreased by 9.8%. Fluid machinery ranked third with and import amount of US$ 171 million which shared 5.5% of the total and increased by 53.7%. Refer to Table 3 for details.

4. Taiwanese Machinery Imports Categorized by Countries

  According to customs statistics in February 2010, Japan, the US, China and Germany were the major sources of machinery imported into Taiwan. Japan ranked first with the import value of US$ 1.3 billion which was 38.6% of the total import value and indicated a 26.3% increase. The US ranked second with the imported amount of US$ 735 million and 23.5% share of the total. This indicated a 219% increase. China ranked third with imported value of US$ 274 million. This shared 8.7% of the total import amount and showed a 65.4% growth. Refer to Table 4 for details.
